Mesoscale air-sea coupling from Eulerian and Lagrangian perspectives

25 January 2024, 4pm CEST. Dian Putrasahan (MPI-M) and Malcolm Roberts (Met Office).

Dian Putrasahan (MPI-M) and Malcolm Roberts (Met Office) host the seventh Science Hour, on Mesoscale air-sea coupling from Eulerian and Lagrangian perspectives.

EERIE's main scientific goal is addressing the role of ocean mesoscale eddies on the climate system. In this science hour, we would like to generate discussions following the overall theme:

  1. How well do models represent the ocean mesoscales and subsequently, how can we quantify mesoscale eddy impact on the ocean, atmosphere, sea-ice and coupling?
  2. How do we extract the impact of mesoscales. More specifically, we will focus on the representation of mesoscale eddies in models and their impact on local air-sea coupling.
