The EERIE Data Viewer v1 is out!

The EERIE Data Viewer v1 is out!

29 January 2026

The first version of the EERIE Data Viewer has been released today. You can explore it by clicking here or on the Data Viewer tab on the top menu of the website.

In case you are new to these tools, we have prepared a Q&A with the basic information.

What is the Data Viewer?

The Data Viewer is an interactive tool for exploring data products from the EERIE project and beyond. Rather than providing access to raw model output, it allows users to explore carefully designed products that summarise key information from the simulations.

The products are available at a spatial resolution of 0.25° (approximately 25 km), making them easy to use while retaining essential features of the underlying high-resolution simulations.

The EERIE simulations represent the first multi-decadal, globally eddy-resolving ensemble. Resolving ocean eddies at the global scale over many decades opens up new opportunities to study climate variability, extremes, and coupled ocean–atmosphere processes in a changing climate.

EERIE is an EU-funded open-science project, and access to the Data Viewer is free of charge.

How can you use it?

You just need to click here to enter the Data Viewer. A guided tour will take you through the main features of the tool. You can always access the guided tour by clicking on the question mark by the panel on the right hand side.

Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to us at press-eerie-project[at]predictia.es

What can you do with it?

Browse climate data variables from different Earth System Models generated by EERIE project partners in the Atlas section, and watch data visualisation stories created from videos elaborated by EERIE project partners.

The products in the Atlas section include climatologies of different periods (and their anomaly with respect to the 1951-1980 base period), decadal trends and time series. The time series consists of the spatial averages over two sets of meaningful regions, displaying the evolution in time of the variables in the EERIE models.

The Data Viewer also includes these products computed for observations, so they could be used to compare to the EERIE simulations.

The Data Viewer will also start featuring Storylines soon.

Who is it designed for?

The Data Viewer supports specialised analysis for climate data scientists, particularly through the Atlas section, where users can select models, variables, products, and time periods for detailed exploration.

At the same time, it is designed to provide intuitive insights for policymakers and the general public, most notably through the Storylines section (to be released later this year), which presents the simulations in an accessible, narrative-driven way.

What’s next for the Data Viewer?

It will undergo a major update in the upcoming months, featuring several Storylines presenting real-life situations where the data obtained plays a key role for informed decision making.

Also, it will have the Phase 2 Simulations data included, further expanding the scientific outreach of the EERIE Project.

Worry not, as we will advertise the final version accordingly.
